Plant Tour

Hamilton Precision Metals (HPM) was founded in 1939 in Lancaster as a division of the Hamilton Watch Company. Its equipment produced high precision metallic materials for mainsprings and balance springs for Hamilton mechanical watches. Today HPM is a re-roll industry leader in the manufacture of precision metallic strips and foils. They roll a wide variety of alloys including stainless steels, nickel, high-nickel alloys, precision resistance and strain gauge alloys, copper and copper alloys, cobalt - and nickel-based superalloys, titanium and controlled expansion alloys. Their products are used in instrumentation, electronics, aerospace, medical and automotive industries worldwide. Applications as diverse as strain gauges to implantable medical devices draw upon the unique attributes of HPMs products.

HPM has an impressive set of engineering and manufacturing capabilities including a Z-high mill and Sendzimir mills for rolling strip and foil to 0.0005" to 0.075", up to 15"wide. Ultra-thin foils as thin as 0.000060" can be rolled in widths up to 4 inch. Computer controlled gauging assures consistency within a coil and from lot to lot. HPM has in-house precision slitters with a minimum width of 0.029". For the very light gauge foil slit widths as narrow as 0.010" are possible. Strand-annealing furnaces for intermediate and final annealing in many different types of atmospheres are available with temperatures up to 2200 F.
Their experienced metallurgical staff provides valuable advice and guidance for selection of optimum material solutions.

As of June 2007, Hamilton Precision Metals, Inc. became one of several highly differentiated, technology focused subsidiaries of AMETEK.
