ASM Monthly Meeting

Mr. Connor Lewis
Junior at Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School
ASM Materials Camp: Student Experience
The ASM Foundation has been successfully running Materials Camps for several years. The goal is to promote Science and Engineering to future generations via the tangability of Materials. There are two categories of Materials camps: those for Students and those for Teachers. Camps are generally hosted by local chapter with the help of corporate sponsors and educational institutions. The sole exception is that hosted directly by the ASM Foundation and held at Materials Park.
Student camps are open to high school students entering their Sophomore or Junior year. As the number of available spots are limited and
the number of applicants is great, only the most highly qualified applicants are accepted. Attendance to the camp is free to participants
and is funded by the ASM International Foundation. Transportation expenses are funded by the supporting chapter.
As the camps are staffed by many volunteers from the ranks of ASM's membership, please attend this month's meeting and get a firsthand account of what the ASM is doing to inspire and
educate the next generation of materials scientists and engineers.
This year, Mr. Lewis spent a week at ASM's student residential Materials Camp in Materials Park, Ohio. He will share his experience with us at our November meeting in Mechanicsburg, PA.
